WHAT IS THE JUST TRANSITION LISTENING PROJECT?

On May 27, 2020 coalition of labor and community partners launched the Just Transition Listening Project (JTLP). From June through the end of September 2020, we will gather the stories of workers and community members as they experience extreme changes in their local economy and community - the impact of plant closures, jobs lost to automation, company downsizing and market changes, industries impacted by climate change, and more recently, COVID-19.

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE JTLP?

The Just Transition Listening Project will analyze the interviews we conduct to provide a guide to decision-makers, workers and communities to improve the way we address economic transitions. The JTLP will offer us important lessons, shared through the experience of workers and community members who have been through such transitions, are going through them now and who face them in the near future. We will learn what is in place and what is lacking in government, private sector and community policy and support. We will learn how people adjusted or are adjusting to the changes in their life and work, aspirations for their community and their vision for their local and our national and global economy.

TELL US A BIT ABOUT THE ISSUE OR STORY YOU WOULD LIKE TO BE INCLUDED IN THE JUST TRANSITION LISTENING PROJECT

For instance, will you be interviewing workers or community members? Is this about a plant closing or other changes to the economy? Not a lot of detail is necessary. We will find out more in the consultation.

ARE YOU PROPOSING THAT YOUR ORGANIZATION OR UNION BE AN ANCHOR ORGANIZATION FOR THIS PROJECT?
ARE YOU PROPOSING TO BE A POINT PERSON FOR THE PROJECT?

The below signed, join in solidarity to support the Earth Day Youth Climate Strikes and Earth Day to May Day mobilizations. This is a critical opportunity to highlight, educate and advocate for urgent action to address the climate crisis on all levels of corporate, local, state and federal governance and furthermore, to accelerate education among workers about the causes, consequences, and necessary changes that must be taken to avert a climate catastrophe.

I/we join with the youth-led movement, local civic and community organizations, the faith community, environmental justice organizations and others to publicize and participate in whatever ways possible to support the Earth Day Climate Strikes and to use this opportunity to connect these movements to the Labor Movement in organizing for a Just Transition for workers and communities.

Want to attend the 2022 LNS Labor Convergence on Climate or nominate another individual?

Brothers and Sisters,

on July 26, 2022 through July 28, 2022, Labor Network for Sustainability will convene its fourth National Labor Convergence on Climate in Denver, CO. The major goal of the LNS National Convergence is to produce an action agenda for labor around climate change and to draft a strategy for organizing around that agenda. It is an opportunity to learn, share and help strengthen labor’s voice in the movement to build a just equitable and sustainable environment and economy. We will also invite allies in the climate protection movement who are partnering with the labor movement for good jobs and healthy communities.

SUBMIT YOUR FORM TODAY, SPACE IS LIMITED

This year we will share examples where labor is engaged in climate protection efforts including campaigns for renewable energy, public transit, successful labor/community transitions from fossil fuels to clean energy, the Green New Deal and more...

We are seeking nominations for invitees who:

greenhouse gas emissions that are required by climate science and (b) provide a just transition for
    impacted workers.
  • Are active in trade unions, worker centers, and worker organizing as rank-and-file members,
    leaders, or staff.
